07 Apr Swinging is my thing….
OK. I admit it.
It was a stressful week.
There’s no point in going into the details. But it all made me wonder… how do we relieve stress? Because, at some point, it MUST be relieved. aaaahhhhhh……
I asked my Facebook friends for guidance (how cool is that, to be able to ask a question of thousands of people at the same time…). The question: what’s your favorite stress relief technique?
There were dozens of responses, and the answers were varied and wonderful!
- reading
- kneading bread dough
- sanding metal
- essential oils
- playing with the cat
- yodeling
- working in the garden
- shopping
- spending time with grandkids
- trail ride on horseback
- music
- yoga
- kickboxing
- sleep
- tequila
- exercise
- humming
- walking the dog
- fishing
And then, the one that nailed it for me! From a physician who shares the same business coach with me, “swinging with wild abandon like I did as a kid.” Thank you, Michelle Bailey!
SWINGING!
Oh, how I loved to swing as a child! And as a teen. And, as an adult. And, yes, even now.
I just flipped through some photos and videos from my last birthday, when I asked my family to take me to Pullen Park in Raleigh to ride the carousel AND the swings.
That was a fantastic birthday, and I’m so thankful for the reminder of such a simple thing to do that calms me and connects me with physics, childhood and freedom, all at the same time! (PS. The key to swinging nirvana is to find the swings with the LONG CHAINS, which they don’t have at Pullen anymore, boooo….)
I also found this old photo of me and my Mama, swinging circa 1974. Yes, I have been swinging for a very long time. Swinging is my thing! 🙂
So, here’s my question for you:
What’s your thing? What connects you to a primal happiness?
First, we must remember what makes us happy. The little things. Second, we create pathways – prompts in our lives – to take us there when that’s what we need.
Helping people capture those memories so they have a wearable piece that will connect them to those truths is the core of my work. Yes, I’m a jeweler. But, jewelry is personal.
It just is.
We wear it on our bodies. It’s with us wherever we go. And there’s a reason we choose to adorn our bodies with the jewelry we love. There’s a reason it speaks to us. And for us.
So, thanks for reading! I’m off now to design some jewelry for myself that reminds me of swinging… for those stressful moments when there’s not a swing nearby that I can hop onto….
….
PS. What’s your thing?
