I created this ring for my client to bring a renaissance to her mother’s diamond and to include other stones (pearl, amethyst, melee diamonds) from her collection that all have meaning for her.
The title of this piece – The Birdsong Ring – honors the story of the diamond. When my client, Greta, was a young woman, she was involved in local theater. Mrs. Birdsong was a patron of the arts and an ever-present supporter. She gave the diamond in support of the local church, and it was then sold to Greta’s father. He had the local jeweler set the diamond in a white gold setting which Greta remembers her mother wearing for the rest of her years. Greta inherited the ring, but wanted to create a new piece for the diamond – something less like a wedding ring.
Our solution is this statement piece. It is 14K palladium white gold cast from a hand-fabricated silver prototype, with diamonds, amethyst, and a pearl from a family trip to Hawaii.
