15 Sep A Locket Addition for a Princess
As a child I had one of those Golden storybooks (anybody remember those?) with the story of the Princess and the Pea. I love that story!
I remember the imagery of that storybook… The vibrant patterns of the princess’ dress, her crown, and her huge stack of mattresses, under which there was, of course, a single pea that would disrupt her sleep, proving her to be royalty.
(I can’t remember why “they” doubted her royal status. That’s a pondering for another day.)
A couple of years ago I made a multi-panel locket for a special family as they welcomed their third son. (Read about that here.)
I designed the locket with a separate panel for each child. I constructed it so that it could be added to later, should the need arise.
That day came.
To the locket panels featuring a lion, a monkey and an airplane previously made for a trio of vibrant little boys, I added a panel with a princess. The design for each panel was based on the nursery motif for each baby, and Baby Emmeline’s nursery was all about the Princess and the Pea.
I was thrilled to create a panel for Baby Emmeline and position her among her brothers. And, how perfect that her emerald birthstone is perfectly pea-colored!
