I remember a time when I never sketched anything first.
I just went for it.
Now, call it maturity or over-analysis or just something I enjoy doing. I often begin a new piece with a sketch.
Whether it will be a commissioned piece for one of my awesome clients, or just something that popped in my head while I was washing dishes, it really helps to finesse shapes on paper.
Graphite is my friend.
